Figueira da Foz.

Figueira da Foz was a total surprise for me since I had never visited this city before. I had an amazing reception from the ballet teacher Tamara Ruiz Tamy, from the Academia Kompassos Daya Dança and from the parents and friends of the dancers I photographed. As I was completely unaware of the city, the locations of this session were the responsibility of Tamara. We visited some of the most characteristic places, such as the salt pans (namely Salina Tapada do Sul), the city center and the famous Casino da Figueira. It was a fantastic session and, again, there was still a lot to show.

Figueira da Foz, also known as Figueira, is a city and a municipality in the Coimbra District, in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 62,125 in an area of 379.05 km². It is a coastal city with several beaches, summer and seaport facilities on the Atlantic Ocean coast. A zone of legal gambling, one can find in Figueira one of the biggest casinos of the Iberian Peninsula – the Casino Figueira. The city is an important industrial centre, producing wood pulp and paper, salt and glass. The seaport and the fishing harbour are also important for its economy.

Date of the session: February of 2020

Dancers: Beatriz Rebelo, Carolina Teixeira, Daniela Garcês, Maria Carrasqueiro & Maria Eduarda Virgínio

Special thanks to: Tamara Ruiz Tamy, Academia Kompassos Day Dança, Salinas Tapada do Sul & Casino da Figueira
